Eyedea, over the past couple of months, has really began to stand out as an artist to me. For one thing, its his ability to encapsulate philosophies into well written stories and fine tuned verses, and another thing is he is one of few people who can freestyle about anything on his mind and make it a coherent speech rather than something that sounds like a freestyle or shittily constructed rap verse.
This album is basically him and a few other MC's getting on stage and doing some improv jazz freestyling. What manifests is beautiful, emotive, and one of a kind in every way necessary. Highly recommended.

leave me bullshit answers for all my nagging questions
Eyedea is in a band with a few other cats rapping. I don't really know the specifics of the band, nor whose voice belongs to who on the songs on this myspace, but the title of this post is from the cat spitting on Live Jam 3. I have a feeling its Eyedea, but I can't tell. I doubt it is.
Regardless, this is dope. Deep rape that isn't pretentious, pompous usage of literary devices for the sake of tickling you until you're ill, or convinced they are.

Peace, Love, and a speedy recovery
from heartbreak.
Oh how easily they forget no anchor to the past
Cut the blood supply and hope the heart beats itself to death
My ribcage is now my own, still feels like your arms net clothed in salt
How'd I let it go this far?
It happens faster than you could ever think
From always and forever to never again in less than a blink
The river runs until it's dry
But I die spittin' my last drip into it's mouth to keep it alive
Long drives, wide eyes, and your smilin' face
You dance I drink, let's waste the night away
They say you always know right away
But you can't foresee the sand being pulled into the sea under a tidal wave
Secrets sneak out when you're asleep
Comin' from a queen's mouth, talk isn't all that cheap
I'm now a lone flame searching for a purpose
Setting fires everywhere I go, can't avoid the burns
We share pain
You took me by the throat and made me understand the world as if I were you and I couldn't breathe
And you can lead a horse to fresh water but you can't teach it how to be okay when you decide to leave
I'm lost, there's no one to protect
I got so used to bein' sheltered from the rain that always followed you
It's not my first time, actually it's nothin' new
But that doesn't make it any easier to get through
The snow won't melt, smoke won't clear
Turned hope inside out a thousand times tryin' to see if it was ever anything more than dressed up fear,
But the two go hand in hand you can't have one without the other bein' there
I'm barely breathin' waitin for these screams to end
Beggin' a god I don't believe in to let me sleep so I can dream again
We went through thick and thin
Came out separate on the other end
But please know no matter what you'll always have me as a friend
And I finally know
Your crime is your pride and your past is my only dose
I'm goin' crazy outa my control
But there's nothin' I can do, I have no choice but to let it go
Each day gets a little less intense
No longer feel like the skins standin' on my chest
You made me more me, and I won't forget the times you helped my find my feet
When I was buried in my head
Thank you, for givin' what you had to give
Takin' what you had to take,
And makin' me believe in you.
Even though I might be gone forever there will always be a place in my brain that'll think of you.
You look so graceful when you're flyin'
Keep goin', there's a lot of world that you haven't seen,
You have my best wishes, even if only in silence, you deserve everything that you've ever dreamed.
The snow melted right when the smoke cleared,
I turned love inside out a thousand times tryin' to see if it was ever anything more than the will to persevere,
but the two go hand in hand, the clouds surrounding you eventually will clear.
I can breathe I found contentment in the end,
Tellin' a god I don't believe in to go to sleep so I can think again.
We went through thick and thin,
Came out separate on the other end,
But please know no matter what you'll always have me as a friend.

Speaker and listener are two of a kind.
stainless slabs of whose dick is bigger
still it doesn't stop hither as young women portray the whorey
witch of high matriarch of slutdom
and lex death pushers glorify fatal futility of guns
all quite belligerently from the not so distant land of insufficient funds and bastard sons
you're withering away at the hands of dogs and duns
delighted to defoliate wherever some green may run
then disperse to a slow trickle
abandoned, praising the sociopath sickle
over the very pen and mic which cripple
your comely hides from doom's grossly disfigured nipples
so there you stand, knowledgeably weened
and esteemed poise to speak in orders lime lit green
atop a soapbox of the many's trusted screams
this time pause and wipe fortune's slate clean
before allowing slurred stupid to beam
from those idolized lips, brother
things can always be better than this.

Sixtoo - THe Psyche Intangible
Great fucking piece of underground hip hop. Sixtoo is a man of knowledge and a great producer, just like Alias. I wish they went on to rap more, but here is one of the few projects Sixtoo did back in the day with him rapping.

is it weird that I've
never seen suffering as usual?
One of the least mentioned albums...ever... but surely a classic. Its So-Called Artists (Sole, Alias, and DJ Mayonnaise) dropping some motherfucking satirical awesomeness. Sole and Alias are the MC's and Mayo is the, uh, yea, he's the DJ. Great album from start to finish, I was really happy to have stumbled upon this a while back but could barely find it. I know Sole doesn't want his new material posted for bootlegging, but this is old and way to hard to find.

Classic fucking hip hop right here. ITs aged now, but its still gold. This is a group of dudes who meant what they said in their thug raps but also fucking knew how awful a lifestyle it was. 2pac was also someone like that, and he died, fuck the world for that by the way. So dig this shit, there isn't too much music like it anymore.

Check Bizzy BOne out, speaking some truth.
"Every body a thug now. EVERY FUCKING BODY"
Epic lulz here.
And also a Bizzy BOne freestyle. I'm pretty sure its a real freestyle, but it might not be. Look at how into this shit he is, reminds me of Guy Picciotto sans the delectable dancing.

Deep Puddle Dynamics
Not a whole lot that needs to be said about his album either. Its truly a landmark in my progression as a fan of music. I got it after I got Why?'s Alopecia, which was also my first anticon record. Prior to that, I wasn't even listening to rap much. I had gotten my firstAtmosphere album which was When Life Gives YOu Lemons. I actually found Why? on myspace's home page, being promoted for the release of Alopecia.
After being blown the fuck away by the honesty of Yoni of Why? I searched last.fm for a similar artist to Why? and ended up hearing Sole's first single "Bottle of Humans". After being once more blown the fuck away, I researched Tim Holland himself on wikipedia and found out he was in a group with Slug. So some time passed, and I was skeptical to get The Taste of Rain, but once I did, I couldn't stop being impressed, not even if I wanted to find their lyrics and concepts dull. One song that stood out most to me first was THe Scarecrow Speaks. I'm not one for encouraging and inspiring songs, but every verse in this song made me begin to question my inactivity at times.
Sole saying "Be what ya speak, never speak on what ya be." and "It ain't that hard but stand if ya ready to be a man" really impressed itself upon my lethargy and insecurity.
Doseone saying "I come to you with one heart, broken in two, gnashed hands, and many flaws, A MAN" and "Make you yours" and "I implore you....just think" still gives me chills to this day because so many rappers aren't willing to say they're a man, even with a flawed demeanor and being. Also "simplistically, topsoil is no sea shell full of bitter ocean body, but it can be," encapsulates the sheer ambiguity of life itself in a mere sentence.
Alias saying "I consider myself blessed when I think" really personifies the maturity of his style and the truth he effortlessly encompasses in his raps.
Slug saying "God got drunk, drove heaven into a tree, now there's no reason left for you to breathe." makes me laugh even now. Him ending his verse with "trying to speak to the class and justify the act of pointing my finger at your head and asking you what the fuck is that?" also reiterated the importance of consideration and conscious thought for me.
This all got the ball rolling for who I am now and feel I'm still growing as. This album also has its fair share of more traditional, braggadocios raps and even some well placed humor. Check this shit out.
I've also thrown in some freestyles I've gotten this past year. Two are about 5 minutes and one is.....wait for it.....30 fucking minutes. I highly suggest signing up for Sole's forum HERE for more potential exclusives like this.

The kind of concert I wanna be caught alive at
Bet if me and you had to breathe the same oxygen you'd choke
And foam comes out your headphones
And little men in black would scurry around and jump on dicks
Saying "Yo champ, keep the heads noddin'", I keep heads still
If I ever perform, I hope to god I attract an audience like that, people who would rather listen to the art than let it make them loose control of their body as if it were a drug. Or rather, I'd hope my music would be this rational and intellectual that it would be like a drug that allows the audience to explore their own consciousness and mind.

On the mediocrity of music
To the man making all the new shadow puppets,
i like your style more worthwhile then rubbish.
a big break for bad taste acting like faith is a face,
a dumpster man singing a dumpster song of redemption,
share the broken note, it's the only note.
people here got thick skin to hold the nothing in.

Goddamn I love reading intelligent people's interviews
Doseone had this to say about his spectacular freestyling: "If I’m a good person, but I’m an amazing killer, what am I supposed to do? Well, I’ve just gotta align it, and go kill bad people."
If you doubt his skills, uh, here:
If you doubt his skills too, just try freestyling. And then try assessing the average 'freestyling' rapper. You'll hear them say a bunch of bullshit with perfectly coordinated internal rhymes or you'll find yourself stumbling over words. The art of freestyling truly lies in ones ability to say just what they think while they are thinking fluently into one direction. Doseone does that flawlessly.
And furthermore, after being asked what he's learned from a class he's taught about freestyling and rapping, the following was said:
"The other thing they made me realize—and if people read The Onion and want to come fight me over this, fine—if you don’t freestyle, you really are bullshit. You’re a fish that if I push into the ocean will make cat noises and try to swim to the dirt. They know it, I know it, and Rap Jesus knows. Lil Wayne freestyles his verses, but that’s a function of laziness. They call it “swagger”; I call it grandma ethics. I asked the kids who they’re into, and they go to YouTube and show me Reed Dollaz, who’s kicking these immaculately written freestyles, and I’m like, “Uh, boys, this is not what we do.” It’s like showing me a Van Damme movie in karate class." - Dose.

Such a great verse
This is what has brought me back to hip hop. THe thing this verse has in common with some of my favorite non-hip hop songwriters is that its speaks on life and it puts things into perspective without making the words all pretty.
Sixtoo's verse on "Testimony", which is off of Sage Francis's mixtape Sick of Waiting Tables
how far will he travel?
the essential interpretation watching the sequential falling of the dominos.
which one will stay erect? a microcosm where every effort is just that.
it's just maps, papercuts, and the photos to prove the strength.
he followed the family, alone as the next member.
california dreaming of moving out there in september.
i sit in admiration, knowing that the weakest link
is also the one that holds the pillars on the brink
of collapse. relapse is the replay of emotional disarray,
sustaining the stains of teardrops on his t-shirt.
sometimes, taking for yourself is harder than giving.
those who want to give up, living in the circumstance.
dance around the issues of dealing with the problem,
drudging through the uncomfortable streets of dispairity.
all's fair in love and clarity,
and also ignorance.
chains don't always hold the fingerprints.
