Jordan from La Dispute posted this as a bulletin on myspace

Fighting the ocean:

"There were nights you could hear us singing through the walls
until the neighbors called the cops.
Looking back those times seem so important.
Singing with our four chord heroes.
Even now I still believe those words
and they mean more to me than they did on the day we heard them first.
If you see me in fifteen years looking like I've given up
remind me when I was twenty four
I issued this promise to never get so caught up in the bullshit
that I lose sight of the true things and cease to grow.
There are nights when the apathy cascades
with the whiskey running through our veins
sometimes it only takes a few chords to remind us
If we're sick of the chains that are tying our weak hands
let's cut them off and put our fists up in the air.
If we can get through today doing the best that we can,
Then hell, I think we're doing alright.
If you see me tomorrow
remind me I really do give a shit about all of this."

The Designated Mourner excerpt

I don't sort of understand this need you have to look for beauty in subtler things. Look at your own hand - look at your own hand, the plate, the cake, the table.

Anodyne

Greatest fuckign word ever. Srsly.

I found this band at the bottom of the page (where suggested albums lie) on interpuink.com . Really good find, I almost ordered the shit instead of lookign for a download. Its somewhat in the vein of Capsule and Converge, but if you listen to either of those bands, you know they're really in their own little world, playing music heavy and fast and for themselves.

Late Night Desperate

There isn't a whole lot to say here. I don't think there's any place to hear the music from these guys other than Purevolume and its only a few songs there. If you love the midpoints between hardcore and pop punk that really make emo its own little genre, this album should be right up your fuckign alley. Got some groovy tunes and a nice voice on the singer that makes it perfect for easy and therapeutic listening. This inculedes two demos, Picture Not So Perfect, and some track they had on a compilation or some ep. Check it.

Current

A lot of emo records I've gotten into focus, seemingly, on emotive outputs rather than lyricism or a unique diction. This isn't an insult to any songwriters in emo, I love the direct and bleak approach to the gloomy subject matter in emo, but every one in a while, you explore a genre and hear some band or artist who just fuckign sounds like they know exactly what they want to say and how to deliver the same emotions or more unfamiliar ones in a concise way. The band backing the man singing is also great, really heavy and soft as hell are what the songs are typically made of. There's hardly a middle ground, and there's no need for one.

MASTODIZZIE

I remember back in 06 when I was still barely getting into Metallica and Danzig to introduce myself to heavier music. I would play drums to Danzig's 'Bodies' on saturday nights, having a fucking ball. Because of myspace, I then got into THrowdown, which was really my first hardcore band. I loved it so much I said I'll explore metalcore too. So I went and bought 3 cds, 2 of which I still love: some As I Lay Dying cd, Down's Nola, and Mastodon's Blood Mountain. Fucking loved that Mastodon album. THe solo on Pendulous SKin, seriously one of the best I've ever heard. AFter a while I got Remission and started really enjoying the dynamic changes in the longer songs like Trainwreck and the other few. That led to me getting into post metal, so really, Remission served as sort of a conduit for more extreme metal to enter my collection.

SO here it fucking is.

American Football fans were told to go fuck themselves

Yea, not my words, I love AF, but a Cap'n Jazz reunion is a fucking Cap'n Jazz reunion, goddammit. I hope to Jesus they pay in LA. Srsly.

Following their supposed "one-off reunion show" it has been confirmed that Cap'n Jazz will play more shows in 2010. The location and dates of these shows have not been announced yet. Jade Tree Records has also announced it plans to release deluxe editions of the band's work for LP and CD.

American Football fans were told to go **** themselves.

Brand new Rosetta

Holy shit, this is incredible. This band knows just where the lines between simplicity and pure beauty cross.

This is why Conan O Brien gets props from me

Conan has always seemed like the most misanthropic, and cynical host of all, who I've looked up to being that I've partially grown up watching him. A kind of honesty like this really isn't too common among individuals appearing on tv regularly. His wise words that he gives in his last show are "all i ask is one thing, and I'm asking this particularly of the young people that watch, please do not be cynical. I hate cynicism, for the record, its my least favorite quality, it doesn't lead anywhere. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get."

This being sort of tied into lessons I've learned about my own thought patterns after watching movies like Reservation Road, which shows just how difficult a marriage is unlike a lot of stupid fucking movies that act like it just another hill to get over.

Anyways, this is about all the optimism anyone's gonna see out of me for the next fucking month or so, so soak it up bitches. Stop treating people like shit and if they treat you like shit, get away or make them go away.

Angry Chairs Redux

http://angrierchairs.blogspot.com/

THe people in charge mostly upload discographies and they upload a shit fucking load of music from bands I never heard of but know I'll probably some day end up taking interest in. Seriously worth a look if there's been some album or band you've wanted but haven't gotten around to.

FFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGG

SSSSSHHHHHHHHIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT

I just downloaded this Capsule Plus record today, and this shit is fucking pure brilliant. For those unfamiliar with the gentlemen, they're outta Miami, and play what sounds like Converge on a lazy (but still insanely active) Sunday afternoon with a hint of screamo's spastic song development and emphasis on melody. Whatever, poor description I know, but this shit is great. I'm gonna redownload via a purchase they allow through the site below.I suggest you all do the same. SHit's 5 bucks. If you can't, you can't, and I sympathize, but don't go buying some fucking extra doggy treats or catnip if you're gonna pass up on buying this.

I'd like to be an asshole for a moment

And remind everyone that not every disaster is natural. We face plenty of awful conditions in America and times like these always remind me of how full of shit pople are. I see an event on facebook saying wear red for haiti. Really? What the fuck is that going to do? Are we going to stand outside and take satellite photographs of our proud, altruistic nation and show them to the people in Haiti like "Look! We know you're pretty much in shambles and need a lot of help right now. But some people on the internet...well...the internet is...well...nevermind...just know its vital to our happiness in america. But people in America are wearing red for you! We know it won't feed you...but its fucking red! Who can be depressed when people in a far off land with a bunch of items they don't need are wearing red!!! Cheer up lil guys, you'll sleep on the floor tonight and for many months into the future, but thats just how shit is lil dog! Just know we Americans cared enough to wear red...for you."

Yea, way to fucking go people. How about we help each other out all the many other years and days some country doesn't get pummeled or harmed detrimentally? I'm not against providing care for those who are affected by events like these, but holy fucking shit, don't act like the world goes back to being perfect when New ORleans is rebuilt, or Haiti, or THailand.

Real shit, lil dog.

A friend of mines, Paul Kats, showed me this little piece that was written while trippin' balls on shrooms. I think its pretty spectacular:

Fucking hippies. Why do they have to make life look so good and so simple? When in fact, life is difficult and requires so much work. People like you and I—we’ve got it easy. We’ve got it easy because we’re selfish enough to not give a shit about important things like environmental protection and social development. If we did care about those things, we’d have a lot of work to do. Instead, we live off of our parents, go to school, and eventually get jobs that pay us enough money to live happy. I hope you understand that being happy is what keeps us from achieving further. The moment we stop feeling satisfied, is the same moment we get the motivation to develop. This is where I become scared. This is my line. Things that alter your content are the same things that stunt your development. The worst situation we can find ourselves in is where we are satisfied with how things are, instead of how things could be.

“No matter what”. The silliest phrase to come into existence and remains to be considered sound. Does that mean, that, no matter how much better things can be, no matter how wrong anyone sees, I’m suppose to be content with it? Does society actually agree with this? I hope people will, some day, mature enough to realize that happiness “no matter what” is social regression. This is not inherent knowledge. People were actually taught this. Just as people were taught the earth was once flat. Why? you ask, has this not been realized? The answer is quite simple. It is for the better. People are not smart enough to decide for themselves. The same good Religion is doing for the great of society, is the same good this “content state” is doing for the individual. I have never once thought, “Wow, you really should believe in God a whole lot less,” or “maybe there’s more to life than the natural flow of things”. Because people need the constant reassurance that “no matter what”, they will be happy as long as they do what is normal.

What should we do now? We have clearly become the enlightened ones. It is clear that we distinguished ourselves as more aware than the rest of society. Take a look at the fried soul over there in the corner laying naked, passed out, clearly enlightened. Some may argue he is different than the rest of us. But he might have considered himself one of us at a point in time. He simply fell into the pit of dependence because he broke out of the program a little too fast. This program is guarded by fear, which protects these malleable souls from becoming erroneously wired. Wired to believe there is no limit to abusing pleasure. They think, “This little thing made me feel happier than I had ever felt… therefore, more of this little thing, in larger quantities must add happiness just as easily.” Suddenly, elementary school math plays its role as 3.5 becomes 7 (twice as strong) therefore, the level of happiness must double too. Right? Suddenly, another man takes off his clothes and begins running through a crowd screaming, “There’s no escape!”

Ask your friends if they have any on them. Unironically they will respond, “No. Do you?” It’s funny. My friends come over to my home and are surprised as they ask why I have so much alcohol around the kitchen. BECAUSE I’M NOT A FUCKING ALCOHOLIC! There will always be need to buy things that provide happiness because people do not know how to say “No”. Ask yourself. Are you strong enough to say no? A common deranged characteristic of our personality is that we try to find greatness in the easiest way possible. People mistake the faith they have in themselves, with their power of self control. These two characteristics mixed together give people the inability to refuse.

Dear Jay-Z

You are a selfish piece of shit, and I don't care about your music.

Sincerely,
Some loser you'll never hear about.

INDIE MUSIC FTW!

I don't think most Modest Mouse fans know about these works, but they're great. Sad Sappy Sucker features a lot of older songs, some only with Brock singing or playing an instrument, that predate THis is a Long Drive for Someone With Nothing to Think About. Its probably not for the average Modest Mouse fan either, you have to really love Brock's words and have some sense of who he is as a human being to really understand and love Sad Sappy Sucker.

The Fruit That Ate Itself came out before THe Lonesome Crowded West and also features some of my favorite songs by Modest Mouse. If nothing else, this EP showcases Brock's ability to write from the heart and not sacrifice harmonious delivery.

Music rant.

THe other day someone told me I take music too seriously, My response was 'someone's got to.' It seems everyones too busy having fun with music. Too busy believing they relate to retarded and happy pop songs or vaguely emotional songs about feelings the artist expressing probably doesn't feel too often themselves. I'm not particularly fond with the state of music as it is, and I blame both the musicians and fans for that. And I also feel what art has became is largely due to our fascination with frivolity. Reading Freud's Civilization and its Discontent, he addressed the idea of beauty and its aesthetic, although useless, appeal to people. I began questioning why I enjoy music as well and whether or not I look to it so that I may see beauty.

I first said I probably do, so I'm not very different from anyone else listening to music for simple reasons like enjoyment, but upon further over-analysis, I realized I really don't do anything for enjoyment, except hang out with friends and joke. And even then I'm always the one trying to start a serious conversation or steer myself away from one because all my cynical beliefs will unravel and I'd probably leave while weeping.

I'm a fan of post-metal and a lot of the lyrics aren't great, to be frank. But they do have a purpose, I feel, and they are coupled with very strong and sensible instrumentals that evoke various emotions I probably don't really get to experience anywhere else. The various crescendos of a band like Rosetta's really feel like gaping wholes in the vast emptiness of life, where only feeling resides. Its hard to define, and as a psychology major, I'm partially ashamed to even say that, but its a lot like what Iggy Pop once described in an interview when, about being in the throes of the music he's making, he said "I don't feel pleasure and I don't feel pain...you couldn't feel anything, and you wouldn't want to either."

It is that very cathartic moment of a lapse of anything that makes the music perfect. ANd it is that very cathartic moment that generic and cheap, pop music lacks. As humans, we get tired of the same shit and we get bored often, even millionaires are constantly seeking out new pleasures and new ways to feel good, and why the same boring ass music gets popular is a slightly perplexing matter. On one hand, I know there are still generations and legions of individuals experiencing what I may call old and dated for the first time and on the other hand, there are people that just don't want to be offended by music or have to pay more attention than they already do in order to enjoy a piece of music.

What I am professing is that we acknowledge the importance of music, and all arts really, as well as the effects of it. Also that we be honest with ourselves when deciding what we relate to. No one listens to Jay-Z because they too have an everlasting amount of funds, but thosep eople do relate to the desire to gain and prosper. ANd I'm not sure what artists really talk about that aside from maybe a few underground rapeprs, but thats the amazing part about searching for music, just like searching for love and purpose in this world, all the minor parts that you pick up along the way actually do have a definable value to you, and when you do finally get what you've been looking for, you're not ashamed to have collected segments and particles prior to that. Its all the more fulfilling if you ask me, but I've never been one to be seen as more than weird in most ways. I just prefer if life meant more than predictable accomplishments and a neurological reaction we were all trained to believe in.

Classic album.

My Bloody Valentine - Loveless

This album is one of my favorites, and I have been listening to it like all day. Download and enjoy. If you can find it, don't forget to buy it.

Great song...

The sun is comin' up over the hill
Or maybe it's not I can't even tell
But there's a warmth on my face
That isn't the blood
And my tears are turnin'
The snow into mud

And I can't feel my left leg
But I think it's still there
Did I kill anybody?
Hell, I never fight fair

What state am I in?
Am I still on the run?
Has it really been so long
Since I've seen the sun?

My instincts are telling me
To pick up and go
But I can't feel my fingers
And I can't move my toes
There's a drained bourbon bottle
Layin' next to my head
And the piss and the vomit
Are the sheets on my bed

Is it you? Could it be you?
Don't want it to

I went out all night drinking
So I took the bait
And I jumped off the interstate
To Highway 8
To the bars full of girls
Who all know me by name
They all drink the same drinks
And they all fuck the same

Now my eyes are turnin' red
In this hotel bar
And she's breathing out smoke
As she motions towards the door
The kindness of a stranger
Or a trick of the trade?
God knows I'm not the first mistake
That she's made

Is it you? Could it be you?
Don't want it to
Is it you? Could it be you?
Don't want it to

I been down and out
I been spit on for so long
I stored my shame in my belly
'till I needed to be strong

In my last guilty whim
I stole a map and a truck
It's pure chance
That i haven't already been picked up
But from here on the slate's clean
I'm headin' way south
Always heard the girls were pretty there
I got to find out!
Look Ma your son's a travelin' man!
I don't know what I did
But I'll do all the good that I can....

Could it be you?
Could it be you?
Could it be you?
Could it be you?
Could it be you?

Also, there are only...like a few copies left of this on Amazon, I'm not sure what kind of indication that is for how many of these cds exist being sold, but shit, I'd buy while you can if I could. I didn't even download this, I ordered the ep and album. Hopefully you all can find it somewhere too. I hate when good music goes out of print. Everything is OK

I need a megaphone

Speaker and listener are two of a kind.

stainless slabs of whose dick is bigger
still it doesn't stop hither as young women portray the whorey
witch of high matriarch of slutdom
and lex death pushers glorify fatal futility of guns
all quite belligerently from the not so distant land of insufficient funds and bastard sons
you're withering away at the hands of dogs and duns
delighted to defoliate wherever some green may run
then disperse to a slow trickle
abandoned, praising the sociopath sickle
over the very pen and mic which cripple
your comely hides from doom's grossly disfigured nipples
so there you stand, knowledgeably weened
and esteemed poise to speak in orders lime lit green
atop a soapbox of the many's trusted screams
this time pause and wipe fortune's slate clean
before allowing slurred stupid to beam
from those idolized lips, brother
things can always be better than this.

Horse Feathers - Working Poor

Gives me the feeling I'm listening to Dylan's discontent about the awful state of the working class in this country. Also reminds me of Lullaby for the Working Class instrumentally. Overall, a great song. I look forward to getting some music by these guys soon.

We are young and we are weak.
Just as blank as we are bleak.
Too far gone in our heads.
We all live and work in the red.

We're cold,
we had done all we've been told.
There's no court for our case.
What failure gave us suits our taste.

We all bend, we all break.
We all forfeit what we make.
Too far gone, in our heads.
We all live and work in the red.

We're cold,
we had done all we've been told.
There's no court for our case.
What failure gave us suits our taste.

There's no money to our names.
Empty pockets to our graves.
There's no court for our case.
What failure gave us suits our taste.

La Dispute - Here, Hear. III

I'm listening to this now and it sounds pretty good. THey've got the Radiohead thing going on with the pay-what-you-want idea, but the money doesn't go to their pockets. CHeck it:

To those of you who are able to donate, I also want to stress that every dollar and cent donated to Well House will be used by the board and residents of Well House (there are actually 3 houses with 12 residents and 4 live-in staff members currently) to aid the funding of both the houses themselves (installing further solar panels, purchasing seeds and tools for produce farming, etc) as well as several fantastic and forward-thinking programs geared towards transitioning people with housing problems into self-sustaining, self-providing individuals. Rather than relying on government handouts and misappropriated programs that fail to address the housing crisis on its most basic levels, Well House provides a positive, communal environment for struggling people and families that addresses both financial and emotional need, all the while assisting in the general betterment of the community. I don’t mean to drag on or preach or anything, and I’m certainly not trying to guilt you into giving money, but, man, the place is so cool. I can’t stop talking once I start. People can be both extremes, I have a hard time remembering that sometimes.

Old school mo. The singer's got a weird voice, but I dig it. It keeps me from feeling like I'm listening to another silly little band complain about something I relate to, and thus, lets me feel cooler as I weep.

Great fucking piece of underground hip hop. Sixtoo is a man of knowledge and a great producer, just like Alias. I wish they went on to rap more, but here is one of the few projects Sixtoo did back in the day with him rapping.

Dangers - Opossable

Gotta give them props for this song, the meaning is great and they throw in a "Fuck Beatles!"

Whats NOT to love here?

Base.
How low can we go?
Fuck the Beatles, I'm an animal
An upright ape with opposable thumbs
To hold the clubs
To hold the guns
Swing low sweet chariot
God bless my DNA
Drunk drive my Chevy to the levee
Let the flood come and sweep me away
No this ain't the apocalypse
It's the way shit has always been
From Sodom to Saddam
Attila to Tienenmen
A quarter million years of human being
A quarter million years as a human stain
We use ten percent of our gorgeous brains
And leave the rest up to cocaine
Lucy in the sky
Got her hands on a new shotgun
Lucy in the sky
Got her hands on a Remington
Lucy in the sky
Her shiny diamonds drenched in blood
And I know where the wild things are
Don't look far
Don't look far
'Cause I got wisdom in my teeth
And terror in my wars
Yes, I know where the wild things are
Don't look far.
Don't look far.
There's a reason that it's hard to look in the mirror.
There's a reason that it's hard to go to the zoo
And there's a reason you want to pry open the cage
See, you should be there, too.

if you have no regrets

you've never talked to yourself. ANd I mean to truly talk to yourself, to question what you think and what you believe and realize that you've fucked up on occasion or two. One can only understand what they've done when they don't think they've always been right.

But anyways, The Strokes are pretty great. Julian Casablancas' new cd is great too. Haven't taken it all in yet, but I've loved the first few tracks becasue I've heard them the most. But the band combines fairly catchy instrumentals and Julian's fucking ominous, self-deprecating, but enlightening lyrics. Really great band, I'd say. Can't wait for their next album.

One of the least mentioned albums...ever... but surely a classic. Its So-Called Artists (Sole, Alias, and DJ Mayonnaise) dropping some motherfucking satirical awesomeness. Sole and Alias are the MC's and Mayo is the, uh, yea, he's the DJ. Great album from start to finish, I was really happy to have stumbled upon this a while back but could barely find it. I know Sole doesn't want his new material posted for bootlegging, but this is old and way to hard to find.

Fugazi - Steady Diet of Uncooked Vegetables

Great album, I'm watching 'Instrument' as I type. Fucking love this band. From what I've heard, they're one of the primary influences of emo bands, and so is Rites of Spring, Guy Picciotto's band before Fugazi. Anyways, shits fucking great. Hope you enjoy.

Ace Sop Wock

Aesop Rock - Appleseed

Great ep. People give Ace a lot of shit for making rather complex lyrics, but the art of words is based on how you say what you say. What Aesop Rock says is a lot of things you'll find stupid motherfuckers like Lil Wayne or Jay-Z and others in hip hop saying, just like you'll find a Van Halen song about love and also a Bob Dylan song. But it is clear after comparison who has a better grasp on the utility and ambiguity of words.
